I've spent twenty-five novels writing about characters trying to figure out what comes next. Most of my books were wrapped around plots with guns and dead bodies. 

But when my father died in 2024, my books and paintings began moving closer to the quiet truths of how people live with loss and change, in the places that stay with us forever.

My work today includes crime novels, short stories, and character-driven fiction set in 1970s and 80s New England. 

My paintings tell stories of solitude and place, and often become covers for my books.

I was born outside Providence, Rhode Island. I live in North Carolina now, which still surprises me some mornings.
